On a hot summer day, a crisp and refreshing white wine is in order. So on this summer day, I opened a Sauvignon Blanc. I often forget how much I like a good Sauvignon Blanc with it’s crisp acidity and citrus notes. And this one more than hit the spot. That is why the Alma de Cattleya 2023 Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma County is the Please The Palate wine of the week.

About Alma de Cattleya
Alma, which means soul, and Cattleya, the national flower of Colombia, is owned by Bibiana González Rave. The Alma de Cattleya wines represent “the soul of the land that gives life to her wines as well as her own soul put into each drop of wine that makes it to the bottle.” Bibiana was born and raised in Colombia, and by the age of 14, she knew she would become a winemaker. After studying chemical engineering and business, she moved to France to study viticulture and oenology, earning a bachelor’s degree at the University of Bordeaux.
Bibiana grew up in Columbia, trained in France, and lives and works in California. Her goal with Alma de Cattleya wines is to represent the purity of the grape varieties coming from their specific viticultural area. She produces wines that are bright and cheerful, as well as affordable.

Tasting Notes
Alma de Cattleya 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of five different vineyards and a blend of two Sauvignon Blanc clones, clone 1 and Musque. The grapes were hand sorted and gently pressed before settling overnight. The wine was then racked to remove heavy lees and transferred to neutral French oak barrels for fermentation. The wine was aged on its lees for 6 months. The wine is very inviting with its beautifully intense aromatics. Stone fruit, key lime, melon, citrus, and floral notes invite you to take a sip. On the palate, the wine is fresh and crisp. The wine is textured and softly coats the tongue and then a burst of acidity floods the mouth.

Food Pairing
The Alma de Cattleya 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is delicious on its own. I enjoyed it with sashimi and sushi rolls. In addition, you can also enjoy the wine with cow’s milk and goat’s milk cheese, grilled fish and seafood, grilled chicken, as well as Mediterranean and Mexican food.
Where To Purchase
The Alma de Cattleya 2023 Sauvignon Blanc retails for an affordable $26 and can be purchased directly from the Alma de Cattleya website.
